75 anni fa un grande giorno per l'Europa, la missione era compiuta!
Milioni di uomini, giunti dall'altra parte del mondo si unirono ai pochi rimasti liberi in Europa fino alla lontana Russia.
Fu una lotta lunga, lenta, dispendiosa di vite umane; venne fatto fondo a tutte le risorse economiche, migliaia di città furono rase al suolo cambiando il loro volto per sempre.
Le popolazioni civili di tutta Europa subirono tutto questo, prima l'invasione, la perdita della libertà, lo stermino delle razze considerate inferiori, poi la guerra di liberazione, di nuovo casa dopo casa, città dopo città, nazione dopo nazione. L'uomo, che nei secoli precedenti aveva lottato per conquistare la libertà, stava per ritornare ad essere schiavo.
Tutto questo fu fermato da una generazione di ragazzi di vent'anni che non vissero la loro vita per come andava vissuta, che non ebbero la possibilità di diventare vecchi.
A tutti loro, a tutte le croci bianche che colorano i verdi prati dell'Europa libera, noi ogni anno, diciamo grazie!
75 years ago a great day for Europe, the mission was accomplished!
Millions of men who came from the other side of the world joined the few who remained free in Europe as far as Russia.
It was a long, slow, wasteful struggle for human lives; all the economic resources were funded, thousands of cities were razed to the ground changing their face forever.
The civilian populations of all Europe suffered all this, first the invasion, the loss of freedom, the extermination of the races, considered inferior, then the war of liberation, again home after home, city after city, nation after nation. The man, who in previous centuries had fought for freedom, was about to return to being a slave.
All this was stopped by a generation of twenty-year-old boys who did not live their lives as they lived, who had no chance of getting old. To all of them, to all the white crosses that color the green meadows of free Europe, we say thank you every year!
