Nuova nomina per il maggiore generale John W. Lubas

 

Il Dipartimento della Difesa ha reso noto il 16 luglio che il Presidente degli Stati Uniti, Donald J. Trump, ha nominato il maggior generale John W. Lubas – attuale comandante della 3rd Infantry Division dell’U.S. Army a Fort Stewart – per la promozione al grado di tenente generale e per assumerne il comando del 18° Corpo Aviotrasportato, in successione al tenente generale Gregory K. Anderson.

La nomina è stata trasmessa al Congresso il 13 luglio per la prevista valutazione e approvazione. La data del passaggio di comando sarà definita al completamento del processo di conferma congressuale relativo alla promozione del generale Lubas.

Il XVIII Airborne Corps è un corpo d’armata dell’Esercito degli Stati Uniti con quartier generale a Fort Bragg, Carolina del Nord. Attualmente esercita il comando sulle seguenti unità:

• 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia
• 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York
• 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, Carolina del Nord
• 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky
• Air Assault School
• Combatives School
• NCO Academy

I soci dell’Avamposto hanno avuto l’opportunità di incontrare il generale Lubas nel gennaio scorso, durante la visita da lui voluta in Italia in occasione dell’82° anniversario dell’Operazione Shingle, lo sbarco di Anzio e Nettuno. In quella circostanza abbiamo condiviso con lui momenti di alto valore storico e commemorativo: dalla spiaggia dove sbarcò la 3rd Infantry Division, ai luoghi simbolo della Guerra di Liberazione quali Monterotondo e Montelungo, dove la Divisione scrisse pagine di eroismo e sacrificio.

Abbiamo conosciuto un comandante di straordinaria statura morale e professionale, e accogliamo con profonda soddisfazione la notizia della sua nomina. È per noi motivo di onore aver avuto modo di accompagnarlo in quei luoghi e di mantenere con lui un rapporto diretto, fatto di scambi di corrispondenza e di sincera vicinanza con il nostro Avamposto.

Custodiamo con gratitudine i ricordi dei giorni trascorsi insieme e auspichiamo di poterlo incontrare nuovamente, magari presto, in Carolina del Nord.

 

On July 16, the Department of Defense announced that the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, has nominated Major General John W. Lubas—currently commanding the 3rd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army at Fort Stewart—for promotion to the rank of Lieutenant General and assignment as the next commander of the XVIII Airborne Corps, succeeding Lieutenant General Gregory K. Anderson.

The nomination was formally submitted to Congress on July 13 for the required review and approval. The date of the change of command will be determined once the congressional confirmation process for General Lubas’s promotion has been completed.

The XVIII Airborne Corps is a corps-level formation of the United States Army, headquartered at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. It currently commands the following units:

• 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia
• 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York
• 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina
• 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky
• Air Assault School
• Combatives School
• NCO Academy

Members of our Outpost had the opportunity to meet General Lubas last January during his visit to Italy, undertaken at his initiative, to commemorate the 82nd anniversary of Operation Shingle, the landings at Anzio and Nettuno. Together with him, we visited the beach where the 3rd Infantry Division came ashore, as well as Monterotondo and Montelungo, where the Division wrote heroic pages in the Italian Campaign.

We came to know a leader of exceptional character and professionalism, and we welcome his nomination with great pride. It was an honor to accompany him to those historic sites and to maintain a direct relationship with him, through occasional correspondence and updates—a meaningful way for him to stay connected with our Outpost, and for us to remain close to him.

We cherish the memories of the days spent in his company, and we hope to visit him soon in North Carolina.

Dear Mr. Settini,

I refer to your letter of June 9th, in which you informed the Head of State about the inauguration ceremony of the first memorial in Italy dedicated to the U.S. 34th Infantry Division “Red Bull”.

In this regard, I wish to convey the appreciation of the President of the Republic for the valuable and generous work of coordination you have promoted, aimed at duly preserving the memory and honoring all the soldiers of the Allied forces who lost their lives in those territories, leaving a shining example of moral values and the highest sense of duty.

Please accept, for yourself and for all those present, the President’s best wishes for the full success of the event and his warm greetings, to which I add my own personal regards.
